Richard graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in 1968 retiring in 1989 as a Lieutenant Colonel after a number of regimental, operational, training and staff postings in Australia and the USA.
While in the Army, Richard attended the Command and General Staff College, the Joint Services Staff College and the Advanced Management Program of the Australian Management College at Mt Eliza, Victoria.
On leaving the Army he started a 10 year career with the Department of Finance working as a senior officer in the Defence and Transport Branches and as a member of the Assets Sales Task Force. Richard completed the Securities Institute Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment during this time. He is a past Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
After a number of management roles in the private sector and operating his own consultancy service in management processes and systems he joined Milsearch as Business Manager. As a consultant he worked with Milsearch and other companies to assist them gain recognition as a Quality Endorsed Company under AS/NZS ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and in Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
