Alan Turnbull

EPA Audited Remediation Project
Alan Turnbull is an Armament Fitter who completed twenty-five years in the Royal Australian Air Force. During his long and distinguished Service career, Alan served in many Armament roles including six years in Range clearance duties.
Alan was employed as Senior Supervisor on RAAF Range Clearance Duties at both Evans Head in NSW and at Leanyer Swamp in the NT. He was responsible for the supervision of civilian teams employed on long-term bomb clearance activities. He alone was responsible for directly supervising excavation and demolition of all unexploded munitions located. Duties also included the precise use of Mine Detectors and Bomb Locators and the training of civilian staff in the use of this equipment. He was further tasked with surveying and mapping of areas in preparation for clearance. He is also qualified and experienced in the operation of earth moving equipment (tractors and excavators) to gain access to buried UXO.
With Milsearch, Alan has completed numerous demanding projects, one long-term project being to meet EPA audited remediation requirements as EOD Manager at the former RANAD Somerton site at Greenvale in Melbourne, Victoria. This is a former RAN/Army Ammunition Depot and Proof Area now being converted for development to residential housing and schools. Previously Alan was employed at this site as a Team Leader tasked with EOD Clearance. At this Greenvale site, extensive use is being made of geophysical survey techniques in difficult geological conditions to identify and remove all munitions residues and burial pits from former burning and disposal operations.
Alan has also been employed as the EOD Manager on Defence disposal properties at Moorebank, NSW. Alan has also completed numerous projects as the EOD Manager on current and active Defence properties, such as the Cultana Army Exercise Area, Army’s Murray Bridge Training Area and at the Port Wakefield Proof and Experimental Establishment, all in South Australia. Alan has also completed numerous projects for Milsearch on Defence properties in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
