Dai was an artillery officer for almost 30 years, holding a variety of appointments in the British and Australian Armies until his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1986. His operational experience in several theatres of war, together with a range of artillery duties in Australia, make him particularly well qualified to advise on the likely nature and extent of UXO contamination of practice, manoeuvre and battle areas.
Dai's work with Milsearch combines his academic and military qualifications with his many years of practical gunnery experience, in studies of the likelihood of UXO contamination existing in various parts of Australia and overseas. This requires detailed examination of published military texts, active unit war diaries, operational log books and similar archived material and relating assumptions drawn from that research, to an assessment of UXO-related consequences.
