
Geophysical Field Data Technician
Simon has been with Milsearch for the past 4 years and is the Company’s principal field data acquisition technician. Working under guidance of the Milsearch geophysicists, he is experienced in site grid layout and data capturing with a variety of geophysical instruments, including TM5 EMU, Geometrics Metal Mapper, Geonics EM61 Mk 2 High Power and Geometrics G858 magnetometers. He has extensive experience in data capture utilizing towed wheeled or sled instrument platforms.
Simon is trained in mapinfo applications and is experienced in the field use and downloading of GPS, DGPS and RTK GPS positioning systems, frequently integrated with sensor data streams.
He has been involved in a wide variety of field geophysical survey projects throughout Australia including in the Shoalwater Bay Training Area of North Queensland. In 2008 he served as the principal field data gathering technician on G858 magnetometer surveys at ExxonMobil’s major LNG Project site near Port Moresby, PNG.
Simon is currently undergoing apprenticeship training as a Level 2 EOD Technician and is formally qualified in the use of Minelabs F1A4 and F3 mine detectors and Forster 4.032 magnetometers. He has assisted Milsearch Senior EOD technicians on numerous UXO projects, including transect sampling field validation studies and 100% area remedial searches.
